Welcome to our new Board Bites segment, where we share quick, bite-sized updates straight from our school board. This monthly recap highlights key decisions and changes to help families stay connected and informed about what’s happening in our school community.

⚖️ Policy Changes & Approvals

  • AI Policy Adopted
The board formalized our approach to artificial intelligence. Going forward, any AI tools or systems used in our schools will follow clear guidelines that protect students and their data.

  • Student Expression & Religious Symbols
The policy formerly known as “Freedom of Expression” was renamed and updated to better protect student rights. It now has clearer language around religious symbols and how students can express themselves respectfully.

  • Support for English Learners (2025–2028 Plan Approved)
A new plan is now in place to help multilingual learners grow and thrive. It includes focused strategies and resources aimed at making sure all students feel supported.

  • Independent Study Adjustments
The policy for independent study now includes more organized timelines, clearer steps, and important emergency protocols for continuity of learning.

🏫 Other Updates You Should Know

  • Special Education Dates Corrected
    • The board fixed the dates for Extended School Year services to now run June 1–29, 2026.

  • Updated Policies for Clarity & Protection
    • Several policies were reviewed to strengthen clarity, fairness, and protection for staff and families. Here are a few highlights:
      • Nondiscrimination Protections expanded to cover more situations and clearer complaint procedures
      • Suspension & Expulsion guidelines refreshed, with more straightforward due process language
      • Records Management rules updated — this means better handling, retention, and storage of documents
      • Expenses & Reimbursements policy renamed and reworded to be more transparent
      • Parent/Student Handbook now includes policies on body shaming, harassment, and revised discipline guidance

  • Prop 28 Arts Funding
The state requires that schools receiving funds under Prop 28 allocate at least 80% to staffing and 20% to supplies and training. These funds will be distributed equitably across our schools.
