A book laying open on a table at the library.
Morgan Stout

Do you ever forget libraries are a thing? I forget they exist sometimes (even though we use them fairly often)! Occasionally, one of my kids asks, “Can we go to the library today?” And I think, “Yes! Wow! I forgot we had a library!”

Your local library is an excellent resource for homeschooling at any age, but especially for your TK students. There is something so special about the children’s section of a library. It’s colorful. It’s fun. It’s kid-sized. I remember roaming the shelves of our children’s section as a small human and being amazed at the fact that there were books for EVERYTHING. Castles? They have that. Sharks? There’s a whole shelf. Skateboarding, forests, hippos, rockets, painting, crafts, fairytales, cooking… it seemed endless to me.

This week, take a trip to your local library and let your student explore. Give them free rein to pick out the books that spark their interest, whether it’s because of the pictures or topic or just what was at their eye level. Read them together and see what they learn! Think about a particular book they really love, talk about authors and illustrators, and see if they can find more books written or illustrated by the same people. Talk to a children’s librarian and see if they have any recommendations for other books and series based on ones they’ve enjoyed reading. Don't forget to get your kiddo their own library card while you're there!

So head out this week and have fun exploring your local library! Snap a cute photo of your kiddos and email socialmedia@sequoiagrove.org while you're at it!
