We’ve reached the end of LP2. Can you believe it? By now, you’ve had time to see how your curriculum fits your family. If certain subjects still feel like a struggle (or a battle!), here are a few tips that might help things run more smoothly:

1. Check your schedule!

Sometimes a subject feels hard just because of when we’re trying to do it. Try moving it to the morning when everyone’s more focused, or pick a different day or time to do it more regularly. For subjects like Science or Social Studies, it can help to do longer lessons a couple of days a week instead of short ones every day.

2. Plan ahead!

Give yourself time to get ready before the day starts. You can plan over the weekend, the night before, or in the morning. Having everything ready to go makes the day run more smoothly.

3. Make it work for you!

You can always adjust your curriculum. The goal is understanding, not finishing every single page. Try doing just the odd-numbered math problems, talking about answers instead of writing them, or using audiobooks or read-alouds.

4. Add some fun!

Let students creatively show what they know—by painting, building with LEGO or Play-Doh, or doing a fun project. You can find cool project ideas on Google or ChatGPT, or order hands-on kits that match their learning.

Sometimes a curriculum just isn’t a good fit—and that’s okay. Every student (and learning coach!) has their own unique learning style. Remember, you’re not alone in this journey! Reach out to your HST, one of the Family Liaisons, or the Sequoia Grove Community Facebook Group for new ideas and recommendations. Every challenge is just another step toward finding what truly inspires your student to learn.
